@Mark Harrington:

I don't know if Mitsubishi will ever do anything about the paint. I guess all we can do is "vote with our wallets" by not buying them anymore.

@Mark:

I never actually fixed the heater switch. What I did was keep the climate control switch on hot and leave it there until the clicking noise comes back and the heater starts working -- which might take several weeks. In the summer when I turn it to cold (with or without AC) I eventually will hear some clicking and the heat will stop working again.

2002 Galant, used to hear a clicking sound from behind the dash when I'd start the car. No more sound now, but NO heat either. Only blows in the cold morning air! Price to fix the valve? thanks

I've been having a helluva time getting Mitsubishi to do anything more than profusely apologize for my defective paint before politely saying it's not covered under warranty. I'm still paying off this clunker (second owner) but the paint gets worse every day. Why hasn't the Federal Trade Commission or state Attorneys General looked into this problem, which appears to be affecting cars across North America?

I have replace the heater core/switch part twice already. I need to do it again! My wife can't live without heat in the winter.

I have almost all the problems that you have described with my 2002 galant. The paint has faded on the trunk, the car shakes unusually hard while idling and the heater control valve just gave in this evening, which is the reason I stumbled on your site.
